November 2003:
Five Finger Discount (Ian-- Vocals & Guitar, Ryan-- Bass, Frank-- Drums) begins jamming in Frank's basement in Binghamton. Songs that would later be recorded by Heywood include "Colder Weather" and "Play To Lose".
January 2004:
Five Finger Discount plays their first show at the Cheers Pub in Binghamton.
March 2004:
After fumigating the basement, Five Finger Discount records nine songs, including covers of "Waiting For The Man" and "Rockin' In The Free World".
May 2004:
After recording four more songs, including "I Want You But You Suck", "Ziggy Stardust", and the sprawling Crazy Horse tribute "A.C.F.", Five Finger Discount disbands.
Summer 2004:
Ian and Ryan begin working with drummer Jared Harel, and eventually name themselves "Heywood".
December 2004:
Frank joins the band as lead guitarist and recording engineer. Heywood begins work on what will later become a 12-song CD.
April 21, 2005:
Heywood's live debut, as the between-rounds entertainment for a poetry slam, at The Underground at Binghamton Unicersity.
September 3, 2005:
Heywood plays their second show, at Katie's in Smithtown, NY.
February 2006:
Heywood's NYC debut is cancelled due to a massive snowstorm. It would have taken place at The Continental.
March 11, 2006:
Instead, Heywood's first NYC show is at the Lion's Den, in front of a surprisingly large crowd. The 12-song CD is unveiled five days later at Kenny's Castaways.
August 2006:
Heywood temporarily disbands as Jared moves to Ithaca, and Ian, Frank, and Ryan pursue other projects. Ian begins a home-recording project with Sean Doyle, called The Gowanus. Ryan plays bass for a group of 60s-obsessed weirdos called Thee Mindshots.
May 2007:
The Gowanus and Heywood combine into one band (Ian-- Vocals & Guitar, Sean-- Vocals & Guitar, Ryan-- Bass, Jared-- Drums). And the universe is in balance once again.
